Research Education

In the 1990’s Ken Evans created three Masters programmes in psychotherapy that included a significant research component and a research dissertation. He has also devised and led a Doctoral programme in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy to encourage clinicians in the field to engage in research related to their clinical practice. Ken has taught qualitative research to psychotherapists outside the United Kingdom in the Czech Republic, Norway, and Italy. Recently he became an Academic Consultant and Academic Advisor to the Metanoia/Middlesex university doctorate programme. In 2009 Ken co-authored a research book with Dr. Linda Finlay:
Finlay, L and Evans, K (2009) Relational Centred Research for Psychotherapists: exploring meanings and purpose. Wiley Blackwell
Dr Paul Barber is a leading exponent of qualitative research within a holistic frame, and has published extensively and is currently member of staff of the Metanoia doctoral programme based in London, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Middlesex.
Joanna Hewitt Evans has recently published two research articles and until November 2009 ran the Gestalt training programme at the Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute, UK, where research methods are a key component of the training programme.
Together with Ken Evans and Paul Barber, Joanna runs a research training workshop for trainers/tutors/supervisors who wish to extend their knowledge and teaching skills in this important area. This course can be run as a one off workshop over three days or combined with a follow up 2 or 3 day workshop, if required. This workshop has been successfully delivered at training centres in the UK, Czech Republic, Norway and Italy.
